Pregnancy and birth are powerful, transformative events in the life of a family. The WomanWise philosophy promotes woman and family centered care, believing that honest, ongoing communication between client and midwife is crucial for a satisfying & safe birth experience. We use an individualized approach to health care based on the concept of informed choice. We believe that every women deserves the right to choose where, how, and with whom they give birth. We offer homebirth services from Baltimore to all the counties north and east, including the Eastern Shore!
"Midwives see birth as a miracle and only mess with it if there's a problem; doctors see birth as a problem and if they don't mess with it, it's a miracle!" Barbara Harper in Gentle Birth Choices
Research shows that midwives are the safest birth attendants for most women, with lower infant and maternal mortality rates and fewer invasive interventions such as episiotomies and surgical births (cesareans). In developed countries where midwives are the primary care providers for pregnant women, mortality and surgical birth rates are much lower than in the United States.
